Helen
Barrett is often cited as the leading authority on digital portfolios.
At FDU, the School of Education faculty have had the priviledge of
working with Dr. Barrett during two visits in the Spring 2003 and
Spring 2004 semesters.
During her last visit in Spring 2004, we gave Helen Barrett a
member site on our folio portal server...and she has now honored us by creating a sample e-portfolio.
Our faculty often 'preach' that you should try
to feature and focus on your evolving and established competencies when authoring on the folio
portal. Dr. Barrett, as the leading authority on digital portfolios, is
of course extremely competent
in the portfolio authoring process itself. So, she chose to center a
sample EdFolio site on her competencies and expertise in the portfolio
authoring process.
VISIT
Barrett's EdFolio site and explore its contents...think about your own
evolving folio authoring competencies as you explore hers...Notice her new focus on storytelling!
Watching and listening to some of Helen Barrett's new digital
video storytelling features might whet your appetite for adding such
features to your own folio sites. Have no fear, help is on the way! We
are currently working with the eZedia software company on beta testing
the next version of their QTI software which will allow you to
record narration and add digital photos to easily create your own interactive
QuickTime movies for upload to your folio sites.

Thanks
to the efforts of Jeff Ross, site authors on the EdFolio Portal now
have a place to seek respite from their site authoring questions ... as
well as a place to share their own expertise and help others.
Jeff Ross, Internship Coordinator for the Educational Leadership
program (and one of our lead 'techies' here in the School of Education)
spent part of the summer developing a set of short guides for EdFolio
authors ... and even a full step-by-step tutorial for 'newbies'!
If you have been given a personal site on the EdFolio Portal, check out the Help link in the 'Editors Only' menu the next time you login to do some work on your site...you'll bounce right into the new EdFolio QuickGuide ... or VISITit right now to take a peek...
More than just a set of guides and tutorials, the QuickGuide
site is designed to become a participatory support community for
EdFolio site authors.
So, the next time you visit the QuickGuide site, click the 'Join Now'
link in the upper right and become a member of the QuickGuide
community. This entitles you to make entries in the QuickGuide
Forum...ask questions, get answers, share your own tips and tricks, and
help others!
