Computers as a Teacher's Aide

Computers as a Teacher's Aide

The Weighted Gradebook  was another assignment that will be quite useful in the classroom.  The weighted grade book was created in Microsoft Excel.  It required mathematical equations in order to calculate the average for each category included in the grade book.  Excel provides a convenient way in which to enter test scores, projects, quizzes, and whatever else may be consider for the final grade.  Using Excel is definitely much easier than using the Old School approach of paper, pencil, and calculator.  This skill will serve to be very important to me as I begin teaching.
Along with our virtual trip we had to write a journal entry for each day of our vacation.  My vacation was ten days so I had a ten day journal entry.  I can use this type of assignment within my classroom as an English assignment whereby I would require my students to write a journal on their favorite vacation ever.  Writing this Trip Journal  was a lot of fun.

We learned how to effectively create Power Point Presentations Trip PPT to create a virtual trip presentation.  I learned how to use Power Point, and thus how to make it an effective piece in my classroom.  Power Point is a great program to know how to use.  I enjoyed putting together the presentation.  It was a lot of fun.  I can't wait to use it in my classroom.

As part of our virtual trip, we had to use excel to create graphs.  This was our Trip Calculator.  These graphs included expenses on food, transportation, lodging, and entertainment.  We learned how to input formulas so that we did not have to do the math long hand.  This in the long run can be a real time saver.  I can use this in my classroom if I were ever to assign a project like this that required a lot of repetitive math equations.  Learning how to use excel was very rewarding.

The Classroom News letter was a fun assignment.  It required that we use Microsoft Word, thus going beyond what would normally be thought of by Microsoft Word.  There are many wonderful things to be done in Microsoft Word, and professionally speaking too.  This was a great assignment to show us how we can effectively communicate and thus keep the parents involved in the school community.  Parent involvement is so important.  This is equally true of teacher-parent involvement within the classroom as well as the school.
