My Educational Philosophy

As a teacher, you will have many obstacles to overcome and objectives to accomplish.  The role of a teacher is to help prepare their students to become productive members of society.  In order to do this, a teacher needs to be a good role model.  They must be someone the students look up to and respect.  It is important to have open communication with your students.  They should feel comfortable enough to come to you for guidance, without fear of being put down.

There are certain objectives I would like to see myself fulfill as a teacher.  I would strive to make my students feel good about themselves.  A good self-concept will give them confidence in everything they strive to accomplish in their lives. It is important to have my students enjoy learning and constantly strive for more knowledge.  The learning process should be motivational rather than stressful and frustrating.  I want to make learning fun and design lessons and activities that get students involved in their classroom work as much as possible.  For younger children especially, having them be the center of the classroom activity captures and keeps their attention.  Nothing is more wonderful than seeing children enjoy learning and really getting involved in the lesson by asking questions.  By their questions, you can see if they understand the lesson.  To meet the learning styles of all the students, teachers need to use a variety of teaching techniques.  The use of technology  helps students gain a clearer understanding of the lesson. To see an example of a technology integrated lesson click here scavenger hunt.  Some students work better in groups.  Working together as a class in a confined area, such as a carpeted area, might work.  Working individually and then sharing answers with each other is another strategy.  Teachers have to be open to several different learning strategies and adapt to the various learning styles in their classroom in order to promote learning.  Everyone learns things differently and has different needs.  A good teacher needs to be patient, creative, open-minded, understanding, sympathetic, kind, caring, organized and most of all have excellent classroom management skills.

Education is the accumulation of knowledge that an individual has learned.  In order to increase your knowledge and become a well-rounded individual, you must always strive to learn more.  You know that your students are learning when they can take a concept they are taught and are able to apply it.
