Computers as a Teacher's Aide

Deyior:
Hello and welcome to my personal edfolio page. Thank you for  visiting my page.  My name is Willis Deyior Dunbar. I am a senior majoring in English/Secondary Education at Fairliegh Dickinson University Metropolitan Campus. I would love to teach creative writing classes which would allow students to express themselves in their own special way. I will post three of my creative writing works to give web visitors an idea of this educational expression.

Computers as a Teachers Aide

Hello viewer. I appreciate you taking the time to visit. My name is Willis Deyior Dunbar and my major is English/Secondary Education. I am a senior,  at Fairleigh Dickinson University, that is extremely eager to graduate and pursue my dream of becoming a teacher. I feel I have taken many courses in the field of Education that have not given me practical tools to use in the classroom. However, Computers as a Teacher's Aide is a course which builds upon prior knowledge and fine tunes skills that are vital to the success of one's class in this world of technology. This class addresses the need for the teacher to able to keep up with computer savy students. Despite my difficulty throughout the course I was able to learn a lot through the assignments given by the brilliant Professor Miceli.

In the first class, we learned the most efficient way to use Microsoft Word and it's tools. We explored various options that I did not know Microsoft Word provided. This was an eye-opening experience for me. The first item we created were flash cards that could be used in many ways in the classroom. These exercise helped to develop our understanding of page breaks and fonts. The second assignment we made class list. This assignment was important to me personally because it is a way to become more organized in the classroom. One of the most difficult assignments was to recall and write a detailed step by step How to Create a Table of Contents document. This was the hardest assignment thus far because I had to remember every step and explain it. At this point, I was thinking that this class was going to kill me!

The next phase of the course made me feel a little uneasy becasue we had to deal with the Excel program. However, I was extremely excited when I successfully completed the weighted Grade Book that was assigned. The calculations, percentages, and formulas the Excel program is able to do were amazing! The Excel program was able to show me how I would be able to grade my students in the future. We also used a list of ten websites to help us practice how to effectively address the use of the internet as future teachers.

This course also helped us to create tools to manage the classroom. Some of the tools we created were a room sign and a newsletter entitled MyClassroomNewsletter . These tools are good for parent nights to help teachers communicate clearly to the parents about the students' progress and needs. All of these tools were important but the most important tool we learned was the Resume .

The most exciting program I worked on was PowerPoint. This program is used to create professional presentations. It is also effective in helping the students learn how to think in a structured pattern. I did my PowerPoint presentation on my trip to Rhode Island and it's many attractions.  The Rhode Island trips expenses were calculated through a Excell spreadsheet reflecting the "trip expenses"  . I also wanted to remember every second of my trip so I recorded it in my trip journal.

After struggling through these assignments I was able to learn the correct and the most efficient way to use Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. I feel the importance of technology as I leave this class and hope to bring it into my classroom in the future. Computers as a Teachers Aide should be a course given early in the Quest program so that students can work on the skills learned. My course reflection explains my journey in this course and exposes my feelings of respect and appreciation for technology as a aide for teachers.

(I am still improving my page but I have all of the assignments posted or emailed.)
