Portfolio Reflection
Posted by Crystal Foster, 5/11/04 at 5:16:28 AM.

thinking:

  1. What do your think is your best piece of work?

I think my best piece of work is my lesson design of the Integrated Unit. Why do you feel it is your best effort?  I feel this is my best effort because it reflects my ability to make a lesson plan, follow it, and present the lesson in such a way that the students can be engaged while learning something that relates to the outside world.

  1. How is it different from other pieces of work?

Even though I got the lowest grade on this assignment,  I feel my other pieces of work do not reflect my learning this seminar as much as this lesson does. With this lesson all of the aspects of teaching are involved such as creating a classroom environment, curriculum and instruction, planning and organization, and professional development.

  1. What did you learn from doing it?

I learned that teaching is not an easy task regardless of what grade level or discipline is being taught.

4.      How does the work in your portfolio show what you have learned about important topics we have studied to date?

I have learned a great deal in Seminar III.  My professional development plan is related to the New Jersey Department of Education Standards because it is based on Standard Three: Diverse Learners where ¡∫teachers must understand the practice of culturally responsive teaching.¡Ö I learned about developing media literacy and because I used the computer as a tool for digital writing when the class did word processing from the interactive video to create notes. I used digital imagery in my website/portfolio. I learned how to be a web author through creating a portfolio web page. I learned how to use digital resources from websites that relate to lesson plans and professional development from studying professional standards from the New Jersey Department of education website. I learned how to use PowerPoint software for presentations and lessons. I learned how to used the Internet for classroom conversations via the discussion board, E-mail, digital drop box. I learned how to use digital imagery with photographs, animation, and graphics added to my website. I learned how to enhance professional development through action research. I learned how to create democratic values in the classroom through inquiry. I learned how to develop my pre-writing/brainstorming skills by using the software "Inspiration." Inspiration also taught me how to use a graphic organizer, draft, review, edit/revise and publish. I learned how to create an integrated unit. I learned how to work in a student- centered class, by managing my work. Finally, I learned how to work well with others by doing collaborative learning, which provides the basis for building trust and relation ships.  My portfolio provides evidence of my knowledge learned in Seminar III.

3.  What example of your work best represents what you have learned in Seminar III?  Why?

My portfolio is an example of my work that best represents what I have learned in Seminar III. It is the culmination of every aspect of topic learned in Seminar III.

4.  How would you rate your overall performance based upon your work in your portfolio?

On a scale of 1-10, I would rate the overall performance of the portfolio with a 9.  I like this rating because my portfolio shows everything I have learned during Seminar III.

5. What else would you like to say?

I never knew I learned so much in Seminar III until I actually took the time to review my portfolio.
