Computer as a Teacher's Aide

Computer's as a Teachers Aide is a graduate class that I had taken at FDU during the summer of 2004.  The class focused on tools and resources that teachers can use via the computer and the internet to better the way they teach and master their careers as educators.  The course worked closely with Word, Excel, Power Point, and this online portfolio, which you are viewing.  This course sharpened the previous knowledge that I had about these specific areas, as well as introducing me to new innovative techniques.

We developed a template which teachers can use as Flashcard for many aspects of their classroom.  These cards could be used throughout the classroom as well as the school.  Teachers can use these flashcards to create name labels for back to school night, or to post different signs around the classroom.  The flashcards make labeling easy in the class, such as designating reading centers or science centers; this makes things easy for both teacher and student.  We also created a Class Sign.  This sign could be used on the class door or anywhere in you room.

Using excel I began to create a format for a Class List.  Using this list in excel, I was able to create a mail-merge with word, so when sending letters home to parents I could personalize them and do so with ease.  In excel I am able to sort my list in different ways, whether it be by gender, name or age I m in full control of the list.

Another tool, or resource that we created during our class time, was a model that teachers can use to create a term paper.  Students can use a Term Paper Setup to gather an idea about how to create an ideal term paper.  In addition to the term paper how to, I also formatted a guide on How to create a table of contents.  This guide can be introduced along with the term paper.

During our class session, we gathered websites for teachers and students to use at school and home, and we rated them based on a website evaluation.  Some sites were great, and others were not, but they were still informative in their own way. I have listed 10 Websites and rating them and listing the main points on the sites.

The final project that we were instructed to create in class, was a virtual trip through the use of the internet, Power Point, Excel and Word.  The trip that I chose to go on was a ten day adventure to the Fiji IslandsThis trip was based on my imagination, and consists of my activities on this trip to paradise.  The class was instructed to record all of our expenses and purchases on our trip.  We were instructed to create an excel assignment that listed all of our purchases, I labeled the document, Fiji Expenses.  While on our virtual trip, we had to record all of the activities in a journal using Microsoft Word, I created a passage for each day I was on my trip, and I labeled it My Fiji Journal, take a look, I really had fun!  The main focus of the assignment was the Power Point presentation which gives the audience a true idea of what the assignment was about.  It illustrates the entire trip, using excellent graphics and texts.

Overall, this course went very well, I learned a great deal and had a wonderful time.  I leave you with this reflection about the course, Thats all folks.
