Research Problem Statement
Posted by Irene Jensen, 5/8/04 at 10:02:37 PM. Research Problem Statement
  • Many second grade students in Number Two School appear to be bored after completing a task before their peers and distract the students that still working on the task.
  • I suspect that this is a result of the students not being self-directed learners.
  • I want all the second grade students in Number Two School to be self-directed learners.
  • Therefore, I plan to create activities and procedures that help students become self-directed learners by engaging the students after completing a task.

Research Questions

1. What procedures are needed to help students become self-directed learners?

2. What activities would a student enjoy that would not distract the rest of the class and the learning process?

3. How do these activities and procedures affect the students≠ attitudes

4. How do these activities and procedures affect the students≠ performance to both the students that finishes faster and the other students who need more time?

Research Questions

Data source 2
Data source 3
Are the students engaged in the activities?
Little Kid survey in which I ask on what activities do they feel engaged and bored in
Observation: I would be looking to see if the students are engaged during class time
Journal in which I want my students to write daily on the activities they did and whether or not they are becoming more self-directed learners.
What activities would the students enjoy?
Little Kid survey in which I ask what things they liked or would like to do after completing a task.
Journal in which I want my students to write and draw activities they would enjoy after they finish a task.
Observation: I would observe the students interests during the school day. I will particularly observe the students after they complete a task.
Do these activities and procedures affect the students' attitudes?
student interview in which I will ask about themselves and other students on how they feel about the activities and procedures
Observation/video taping: I would observer/tape record to see if my students' attitudes have changed.
Journal in which I want my students to write and draw how they feel about the procedures and activities as well as other students' feelings.
Do these activities and procedures affect the students' performance?
Little Kid survey/interview in which I ask about the procedures and activities, and their class performance.
Observation: during activates I will observes participation and change in performance with each student
Lesson plan/grade book: I will use my grade book to see if grades are changing and also to see what lessons/and activities I did during those days.
