Irene:

Portfolio Evaluation
Posted by Irene Jensen, 5/11/04 at 8:36:38 AM. During Seminar III I learned a great deal.  My best piece of work would have to be the Webquest I developed for my interdisciplinary unit.  I feel that this is my best effort because I had to use careful planning and I had to use all the information I learned for this course and several others. Also, this Webquest is different from my other pieces of work I did this semester.  I used my old Webquest list that I had from Seminar II to find out layouts of a Webquest.  I also had to research those standards I would use, which has been emphasized since Seminar I.  I also used my artistic and technical skills, which enforces the Media Literacy Handbook.  For many of the graphics, I developed them in Photoshop (Photoshope is a graphic program).  Developing this Webquest, I learned how to use Dreamweaver, which is a program that helps create personal Internet layout/pages.  This program gave me unlimited control on how I wanted my Webquest to look like.  With some outside help and   I was taught just on general information on how to use the software.  With some technical assistance and some room of another site, I was able to develop something I had never done before, develop an original web page from scratch.

I learned so much this semester in many areas in Seminar III.  I have leaned about media literacy, developed a Professional Development Plan related to the NJ Professional Development Standards and I also did action research statement and data collection chart.  I also learn from my reform book, Savage Inequalities, how schools are not created equal.  The Media Literacy Handbook I learned on how students can use technology in the classroom.  In Seminar III by the use of technology this classroom was an example of the whole Media Literacy Handbook.   We developed a portfolio as a web page, did PowerPoint Presentations, used e-mail, and learned new software that aided our learning (Inspiration), and ran technology into our reports (word document).  My professional development in terms of developing a Professional Development Plan, related to the NJ Professional Development Standards, has been close to being lightly accomplished.  By developing the Webquest I developed:
4. Standard Four: Instructional Planning and Strategies. I shall develop a better understanding of instructional planning, design long and short term plans based upon knowledge of subject matter, students, community, and curriculum goals, and shall employ a variety of developmentally appropriate strategies in order to promote critical thinking, problem solving and the performance skills of all learners.
My action research statement relates to the Webquest I developed.  I also have been researching designated leaning areas in order to engage the learner (will draw a layout when research is complete).  The reform book, Savage Inequalities, made me understand more why good teachers are needed in poor districts.

The best example of work that best represents what I leaned in Seminar III is the in, exception to the Webquest I did with my group, is the reform book, Savage Inequalities.  This work developed all my skills that I had done on previous seminars.  I also had to do a lesson, which helps me improve my speaking skills and lesson planning.  This project had to be the second longest assignment I had to do.  The only reason why it took so long was because of the constant planning on how to approach the lesson.  This was almost a full teaching experience.

My overall performance based upon my work in my portfolio is excellent.  Everything I did during this semester I worked hard and I used all of my skills to develop this portfolio.  I have learned so much by doing this whole portfolio.  I excelled on my own standards that I am familiar with.  I know, even though, I excelled this semester, I know I still have room for improvement. I am capable of leaning more because life itself is an ever-learning process.

This semester I learned a lot.  Before I was uncertain on how to connect my previous seminar classes into this one.  I was unclear about how the standards were used and also when to use them.  I also was uncertain on how to do a curriculum even though I had done it before.  This class really help emphasize what I had learned in the previous seminars.  I also learned several things I had never learned before.  One thing that I was planning to do was to create a web page/web-site.  This task was made when I did by my portfolio and also the Webquest.  Thank you for a wonderful experience.
