STANDARD ONE: SUBJECT-MATTER-KNOWLEDGE
I think that the first step in getting started in this area is to become familiar with the New Jersey Core Curriculum Standards. Once you understand the standards the next logical step is to go over the curriculum of your school so you can have a clear understanding of where you will be going when you start teaching your children. Once you have a working knowledge of the curriculum and the standards you will be able to prepare meaningful and worthwhile lesson plans that will benefit and be meaningful to all of the students. If you click on STANDARD ONE: SUBJECT-MATTER KNOWLEDGE above you will see my power point presentation of a lesson.

STANDARD TWO: HUMAN GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
As I teacher I understand that the classroom will have a diverse group of learners. Not all children learn in the same way. Some children are hands on learners while others learn best visually. All of the learning styles will need to be addressed through a variety of teaching styles.
It is also important to keep in mind that learning is influenced by individual experiences and prior knowledge. Cultural diversity also plays an important role on how child learn.
All students bring different stregnths and talents to the learning table. It is our duty to work with the student's stregnths so we can nurture their abilities which will enable them to become higher order thinkers and learners.
If you click on STANDARD TWO: HUMAN GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT you will find a copy of my power point presentation all about me.

STANDARD THREE: DIVERSE LEARNERS
My classroom of the future may be filled with cultural diverse students. How a student learns best could be influenced by the student's social class, gender, race, language, special needs, as well as other factors.
In my classroom all students will be created fairly and equally regardless of any cultural differences. All the students in my classroom will be taught to respect all of the diversities in the classroom.
It is important for the students in my classroom to learn about the differnent cultures that exist in my classroom. The children will have an international day where they will research someone else's culture.

STANDARD FOUR: INSTRUCTIONAL PLANNING AND STRATEGIES
When planning a lesson it is important to have long-term as well as short-term goals. It is helpful to use a variety of materials and vary your instructional method to enable all students to learn. It is helpful if while planning your lessons you plan across the curriculum. Different types of assessments are very useful.

STANDARD FIVE: ASSESSMENT
I plan on using different forms of assessment. If you use many different forms of assessment then you will have an opportunity to see what works best for your class. I cannot totally do away with examinations, but I would like to give the children an opportunity to work on projects, do powerpoint presentations as well as other types of creative activities where the students can show off their learning. It is important to always include a rubric so the students know what is expected of them.

STANDARD SIX: LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
I will have a positive classroom environment that encourages positive relationships within the classroom among the students and between the students and the teacher. I will encourage good positive behavoir and mutual respect between all of the children. The classroom will be a student-centered classroom where the children will be able to create their own classroom rules to create a fair and democratic society.
I am hoping to empower the children so they can be responsible for being a good citizen in this democratic society that they created.

STANDARD SEVEN: SPECIAL NEEDS
It is important for me to review the IEP's and 504's before the first day of school so I am aware of special modifications that will need to be made for children with special needs.
I know children with special needs are capable of learning at higher levels when they are given what they need. It is my goal to have all students achieve at their highest possible level.
It is important to analyze different assessments to identify where the difficulties may fall so I could help fill in some of their educational gaps. This will enable me to become an active member in planning the student's IEP.
STANDARD EIGHT: COMMUNICATION
I will provide a variety of ways to my students to allow them to provide information. Some of the ways they can do this is through a newsletter, cards, brochures, a puppet show or a radio broadcast. If you click on STANDARD EIGHT: COMMUNICATION you will see the newsletter that I created.
STANDARD NINE: COLLABORATION AND PARNTERSHIPS
It is important to display the children's work. The work can be displayed in your classroom on a bulletin board or hanging in the hallway. You can have some displayed in the media center or the principal's office.
STANDARD TEN: PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
As a teacher, you must continually grow mentally and emotionally. I love to learn and I am a lifetime learner. This is important so you can always keep yourself up to date professionally.
It is important to stay connected with the children. I would like to volunteer to be a leader in some of their groups to make it easier for me to connect with them. I would also like to attend a baseball or soccer game that may be important to them.
