I. THE LEARNER
-Yes the unit includes a description of the learner. -I believe the lesson can be accomplished in two weeks.
II. THE SEARCH FOR UNDERSTANDING
-Their lesson plan included many opportunities for the students to give their points of view about the depression. They are given an anticipatory set which allows them the opportunity to put themselves in the shoes of the book's characters. -I believe the topic is relevant, mostly because it is American history. So, yes it is a real-world problem.
III. STRUCTURING THE LEARNING
-The Core Curriculum Standards are relevant to the learning. -Primary sources are used.
IV. WHO IS IN CHARGE OF THE LEARNING
-Students are open to take an active role in the learning by researching online. -The open-ended questions were not really there, but as a class we were able to offer some suggestions that will strengthen the lesson.
