Focusing Questions:
How can I use the Internet to facilitate my teaching? What Internet projects can I expect of my students?
How can I facilitate them in completing these Internet projects?
Course description: This course will explore the world of the Internet from an educators' point of view. It will train students in all of the basic skills necessary for navigating, communicating, and sharing all forms of information carried by this exciting medium. Students will also be introduced to the emerging multimedia craft of web site development. This course is intended to provide a survey of the wide range of opportunities offered by the Internet so that educators can go back to their schools and classrooms and develop gateways to these resources for students of all ages.
Required Materials:
- PC diskette(s), CDRW discs (at least 2)
- E-mail account
- Text: Magazine will be distributed in class

- Two lesson plans (one must be a webquest use webquest template) (15 points each, 30 points total), - documents are evaluated on grammar, composition style, content and technology integration.

WEB SITE EVALUATION:
Evaluate one web site related to education. Preferably a top winning school web site as awarded by TechLearning.com. You are to explain how this site would enhance your teaching and be integrated into a lesson. What NJCCCS are covered by this site? Why is the use of the Internet critical to this process? (due Session 4)
You are also to provide 9 additional websites in a database. This sites must be evaluated as "exemplary" according to the provided rubric. (due Session 11)
SCAVENGER HUNT You will create a scavenger hunt web page suitable as a homework assignment in your classroom (due Session 3)
CRITIQUE OF YOUR DISTRICT AUP (Acceptable Use Policy) (due Session 7)
TWO LESSON PLANS:
- Create a lesson integrating the use of the Internet. Resources should be from a reputable web site on the Internet (e.g.: NYTimes, ISTE, Microsoft, Scholastic) (due Session 7)
- A Webquest Lesson - use the slide presentation from class 5 as a guide. (due Session 8)
ESSAY: An essay (2 typed pages, single spaced) summarizing your thoughts on the unique role of the Internet in Education. (due Session 11)
WEB SITE:
Create a web site that can be used by your students in a classroom as a resource. It must adhere to principles of good web site design discussed in class and the NJ Core Curriculum Content Standards. It will be evaluated as to content, structure and design. Part of the content will be the web links and resources needed for your required lesson plans. (due Session 12)
