| Field Experience II Task IV Posted by Jennifer Moyer, 4/7/04 at 7:18:12 PM.
Technology is something that will be taking over the world one day. It might be coming sooner than you all think. The need for knowledge of technology is something that everyone should want; everyone needs to learn more about the technology around us, and how to use it all. There is more of a need in schools for technology, and not all the teachers have enough knowledge about it to teach it, especially if there is no technology department, or class.
While filling out the Self Assessment I have noticed that there were alot of areas I did not know much about because most of the schools I have attended, there was not much of a need for technology. Some of the other teachers I have talked to even said that they had no clue how to use the computer once they turn it on.
There were eight categories that Ihave very limited knowledge on. Those categories are basically the categories that have to do with web design, digitized images, and interactive videos. They are all things that have not really been around for a long period of time and people are still getting used to. There were no categories where I had a high knowledge on things. The other categories I had some knowledge of but would still need to learn more about it. Those categories basically had to do with the knowledge of soft wares and programs that are being used. I need to gain more knowledge on a lot of levels to be able to teach the technology that is needed for classrooms today.
I have set goals for myself that I also feel are goals that everyone who has limited knowledge on technology should do. My main goal is to learn more about computers, to start off slow. Then, I would like to learn about the programs that are on the computer, and then learn more about all of the other programs that are out there, in case they are needed in the future. One of the teacher I have Observed said to me that she has never realized how much of a need technology is and that she wished she would have been able to learn more about it, so she would not have to be in this situation now. She has told me she knows about the basic programs, like, America Online, Microsoft Word, and Power Point. She even said that if she needed to do extended research online, she might not be able to do that because she does not know of all the search engines or how things work. She uses AOL for e-mail and to keep in touch with family, and friends. She has said that there are so many programs that could probably make life easier and she has no idea how to use them. That is why I feel that setting a goal of learning more about all the programs is a fair goal to make. It will not only benefit me, but me future students as well. The last part of my goal was to be able to apply the programs and soft ware I learn in the classroom, so I will then be able to further the knowledge of the students by teaching them what I has learned.
