Computer As A Teacher's Aide Posted by Kristina Szalay, 2/22/07 at 6:42:55 PM.
This semester we constructed numerous technology applications within our "Computer As A Teachers Aide" class. Some of the Microsoft programs we learned to work with are:
- Microsoft Word
- Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft Power Point
- Microsoft Publisher
We began our semester with a Technology project. This project consisted of us researching one scholarly article on Instructional Technology and write a synthesis report on this article. The area of Instructional Technology that i chose was Distance Learning and Its Use of Video Conferencing. I found this area of Instructional Technology to be very informative and useful in the classroom.
The next project we worked on was a Hyperlinks Excel spreadsheet Math Hyperlinks. We were asked to choose a specific area of instruction, research the Internet and FDU's Online Library to find supportive yet updated information regarding this topic. We learned how to hyperlink the websites we chose as well as listing the grade, content area, subject, and the NJCCCS our site supports. Along with this project I have attached the Hyperlinks Rubric.
The next assignment was a Flyer. This project asked us to use Microsoft Word and create a flyer that could be used within our classroom. We could chose either a door sign that consisted of our name and the room number or any flyer of an event that would take place within our school for parents to be aware of. I did mine on an actual event that took place in the school I am currently in. This event was a Living Museum of famous people; alive or deceased. Both fourth grade teachers as well as our Principal welcomed the parents of the students into the school to view their son/daughter conducting a live/verbal presentation of a famous person they chose to research.
Our class then continued to create a Publication. This was created using Microsoft Publisher. We were required to create a Publication for our students and/or parents which offered information about a specific content area that we would teach in the classroom or a welcoming publication which listed a brief introduction of the teacher, class rules, class supplies, and any events taking place within the school and/or as a class.
Our course then led us into using Microsoft Excel in order to create a Gradebook. This gradebook consisted of a student list as well as their personal information (address, phone number, parent(s) name(s)). We were also asked to record 5 different grades for our students and have a different weight scale for those grades. We also had to average the grades together and come up with a final grade for our students. Along with our grades we also had to create a visual graph/chart that utilized the grades we included in our grade book. We concluded our project with an attendance sheet for our students. Finally I added a Gradebook Summary which summarized my thoughts and feelings on this project as well as how this project helped me as a future teacher and which NJPST/NCCCS this project addressed. In conjunction with this project we also had to create a Mail Merge. This was done using Microsoft Word. Our mail merge consisted of us creating a newsletter that would go home to parents in regards to any topic. We merged our parent names and addresses from our gradebook into this letter. This is done to save time while also building the capability of personalizing letters in bulk rather then typing each letter one at a time.
Our last piece of technology work we did in class was a Powerpoint presentation. Throughout the semester we learned how to implement Powerpoint in a classroom as well as how to effectively create a Powerpoint presentation so that the content is enhanced through Powerpoint not just used as a "pretty technology tool". My final project was a Video iPod Powerpoint Presentation. I talked about what a video iPod is as well as how to implement one into a classroom with a great range of benefits and concluded with resources for teachers to learn more information regarding it.
Below I have listed the specific class work that we have conducted during class time.
Class Work: During one of our classes we worked on a Sample Power Point project. This was demonstrated to us by our professor in order to show us the proper elements of an effective presentation. This was a class time project we worked on to become familiar with using PowerPoint. This is an animation of a Bouncing Ball that is shown at different angles on each slide.
